Frequently Asked Questions
A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and cooling system that absorbs heat from the air to power heating and cooling your home (vs. generating heat from burning oil or gas), making it up to 3x more efficient than traditional HVAC systems.
In winter, it draws warmth from outdoor air and brings it in; in summer, it reverses to cool your home. It replaces both your furnace and AC with a single energy-efficient solution. It's easy to install, and works with your existing ductwork, or can be installed as a ductless system with small "mini-split" units to bring the temperature controlled air into each room.
Heat pumps offer several advantages over oil and gas systems:
They don’t require fuel deliveries or combustion and efficiently pull heat from the air. You’ll never have to pay per gallon of oil again
They do not use oil or gas, so you’ll have no carbon monoxide, gas fumes, or oil leak concerns
They’re incredibly energy efficient and quiet, electrical use from heating tends to reduce by up to 65%, lowering your PSEG bill as well as eliminating your fossil fuel costs
They take up less space than furnace systems, freeing up storage room
They use your existing ductwork (or can go ductless)
They’re cleaner, quieter, and dramatically more efficient. And with rebates and long-term energy savings, switching is easier than most people expect.
Yes. Today’s cold climate heat pumps are built to handle Long Island winters, even when temperatures drop below freezing.
They deliver consistent comfort without relying on oil or gas systems. On the very rare occasions when temperatures dip below 20 degrees, your system will automatically activate an auxiliary electric backup to ensure your home stays warm (without any need for oil or gas).
Costs vary depending on your home’s size and system type. But with PSEG rebates, NY State incentives, and the 30% federal tax credit (expiring in 2025!), many upgrades cost less than replacing an oil furnace, and start saving you money right away. And don't forget the savings from not purchasing oil this winter!
Yes. We help you claim every incentive available:
30% federal tax credit (ends Dec 31, 2025)
PSEG Long Island rebates
Optional solar tie-ins that can reduce your utility bills even more.
NYSERDA Clean Heat Rebates: The NYS Clean Heat program, administered through utilities and NYSERDA, offers substantial rebates on qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps. Rebates typically range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on system size and efficiency, with enhanced amounts for cold climate models
ENERGY STAR® certified heat pumps in New York are eligible for both substantial rebates and federal tax credits in 2025. The NY Clean Heat program offers rebates for installing high-efficiency and ENERGY STAR heat pumps, often stacking with federal credits and sometimes covering up to half or all of project costs for income-eligible households. The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation is important, beginning in 2025, federal tax credits (30% of the cost, up to $2,000) specifically require this label, especially for cold-climate models.
Additional NYSERDA programs include Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®, which can provide rebates up to $5,000 for HVAC upgrades, and special support for lower-income households. For heat pump water heaters and dryers, rebates and coupons are also available, with higher amounts for income-qualified applicants.
To access these benefits, choose a heat pump model listed as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient (or Cold Climate for best performance in NY), and work with a participating contractor familiar with NYSERDA and utility-led rebate programs. Most program details and applications are managed through NYSERDA’s website and utility partners.

There have been recent changes to the federal tax code, and the 30% federal tax credit for heat pumps ends this year. You MUST have your heat pump installed by December 31, 2025 to claim these savings. Installation demand is rising fast. We encourage you to book a free consultation, so we can explain how to get the most for your money, and understand what programs are ending, and the many others that remain.
Yes. Many customers bundle their heat pump installation with a solar referral, maximizing savings and reducing their carbon footprint. Ask about our Solar + Heat Pump Combo to see how much you could save annually.
Heat pumps eliminate oil and gas heating bills that can cost $2,000–$4,000 each winter. They can also reduce your heating-related electricity use by up to 65%, helping you reduce electrical bills every month.
Pairing your heat pump with solar can unlock even more rebates and lower your total system cost. And if you're thinking about resale, a 2023 Nature Energy study found that homes with heat pumps sell for $10,000–$17,000 more than homes without. Local realtors have shared that this is a sell point for their clients in 2025.
